WATER is life.
Northshore W.A.T.E.R.s (Water Awareness Through Environmental Reporting) empowers our local community to understand, protect, and enjoy our waterways by providing clear water quality information, encouraging safe recreation, and supporting nature-based methods that benefit the health of the Lake Pontchartrain watershed.
Our Story
As a community surrounded by bayous, marshes, rivers, and lakes, water is inseparable from living on the North Shore. Our founding members come from families that have been fishing here for over 200 years. We have used the waterways for baptisms, for connecting with our loved ones, and as a source of natural wisdom. The quality of our waterways directly relates to the quality of our lives. We have come together to support understanding what is in our water and promote awareness of the efforts being made to monitor it.
THE PROBLEM
We conducted a survey, and found that less than 30% of our local community was aware that water quality testing data is available at popular recreation sites like the Northshore Beach, Mandeville Beach, Bogue Falaya River, Madisonville Boat Launch, and Fontainebleau State Park Beach.
THE SOLUTION
We’re going to raise awareness of available water quality data by placing weather-resistant signs where people enter the water, and promote water awareness through events and continued collaboration with scientific partners.

Make a Donation
Donations provide an immediate impact and will be used to fabricate and install public signage at five initial locations that are tested each week by the Pontchatrain Conservancy.
After the first five signs are installed, we will continue to broaden water quality awareness in our community by expanding our local partnerships with scientific organizations, finding new ways to visualize the data that they produce to raise public awareness.
Our mission is simple - share water quality data right where people are entering places that are being monitored. By doing this, we advocate for water awareness to encourage responsible recreation, promote public health, and science that strengthens the relationship between our waterways and the communities they serve.
Because WATER is life.
